Move Eat Grow in Tunbridge Wells Add to Your Support

The health team  at Tunbridge Wells Borough Council are launching a new community weight management programme – move, eat, grow to help people with learning disabilities in making healthy choices and reducing their weight.

The programme, developed and delivered in partnership with Kent High Weald Partnership, The Good Neighbour Project, and Little Stirrers Community Chef includes:

  • Individual and personalised assessments
  • 4 interactive group nutrition sessions on the eat well plate/ portions, fat, sugar (and fruit & fibre) and understanding labels and eating out
  • Participants will have the opportunity to follow up on these themes in individual 1:1 sessions with our nutritionist, who will also give personalised dietary support every week
  • 4 group cooking classes looking at breakfasts, snacks, lunch and dinners
  • Fortnightly 30 minute group exercise class
  • Weekly fruit, herb and vegetable growing in the community garden, around the lake and woods – learning about food (that will be used in cooking sessions), improving wellbeing in the outdoors and being active
  • Initial, mid-point and end of programme weight check
  • Easy-read leaflets and information
  • Learner-led pace of sessions

The sessions will take place over a Tuesday morning from 9.30am – 1.30pm with regular planned breaks, refreshments and lunch provided. Starting on 2 September 2014. Parents and or carers are welcome to attend.
