Reading well - books on prescription Add to Your Support

Kent and Medway Libraries are part of the national Reading Well - Books on Prescription scheme. This scheme aims to assist people with mild to moderate mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, phobias and eating disorders.

How it works

GPs and other health professionals prescribe books, selected by a variety of experienced mental health practitioners, to relevant patients. The client can then go into their local library to borrow the recommended books. Reading Well Books on Prescription collections are available in 45 Kent libraries. If the book is not immediately available locally, the library will obtain it from another library free of charge.

The Books on Prescription collection of 30 titles, selected by experienced health practitioners. The scheme is free to use and covers issues such as anxiety, depression, phobias, eating disorders, bereavement, confidence building and managing trauma.
